On July 1, 2002, El Rancho began its status as a charter school. Under the Charter School Act enacted by the California State Legislature, the school is one of approximately four hundred to acquire this special status. The school remains a public school that is funded by the State and is governed by a special Charter Board that is comprised of parents, teachers and administrators.
